A remembrance  to our beloved family cat Kismet
(3 June 1985 - 8 December 2003)

KismetKismet was rescued from the Bedford Animal Hospital in Bedford New York. She was the runt of the litter. Kelly saw her and immediately fell in love with her. Kelly adopted Kismet at 5 weeks old. Being that small Kelly used to keep her in a playpen. Needless to say Kismet was not standing for this. She would climb out every night and snuggle up on Kelly's pillow each and every night. From that point on, that is where Kismet slept .When we got married Kismet came along with us. But she seem lonely, especially when she came from a house of seven cats. So we adopted Trouble and two years latter, Morris. Together they were one happy family. In 1999 we lost both Morris and Trouble.

As Kismet got older and slower, we stopped letting her be an "Out Door" cat for the most part. Since we live in a high traffic area, Kismet was just getting to old to beat those speeding cars. So we totally fenced in our back yard. With her age, getting over the fence was difficult and this still allowed her to have her outside time. She was very content with that. She had the full run of the yard and no one bothered her.

In 2002 we adopted two additional members to our family, Casi and Sasha, but Kismet was still the head honcho.. Later that year Kismet began to have what appeared to be seizures. She would retreat to the hiding under the bed or couch and just not being herself. Our Vet pretty much seemed to write her off due to her age and the fact that she was already diagnosed with Chronic Renal Failure. Well this is our baby and that did not satisfy us. We tried a different Vet and she diagnosed Kismet with hypertension. A simple pill a day and Kismet went back to our old self and habits. Then in September 2003 she began with weakness of the legs. It was first though that is could be a disc issue. Lab work taken showed low potassium which could also be related to the weakness Kismet showed. First we tried potassium supplements, then intervenes fluids with potassium. Her condition only worsened. Finally in November we had an MRI done. It showed an inoperable tumor in the spine. There was nothing we could do. We tried Steroid pills to help but the tumor was only growing. She was loosing her ability to do anything that she would normally do. Finally on 8 December 2003, Kismet was laid to rest, to end her pain and suffering. Needless to say that she's in Rainbow Bridge, along with Morris and Trouble awaiting our arrival. We both miss her. She had a unique personality that is missed each an every day. --SPT
